Eczema on the Legs – How to Treat It

Eczema is a severely uncomfortable skin condition which can cause much stress and a general lower quality of life. Thankfully, however, there are ways in which to deal with the situation and in this article, we shall be looking at ways to deal with eczema on the legs.

One of the main causes for eczema on the legs is excessive heat plus the type of material in the clothes we wear. If eczema is already in these areas, then it may become significantly worse.

To deal with this occurrence, we need to be sure that we are wearing appropriate clothing for the skin, which will not cause irritation. Many materials such as, acrylic, polyester and leather can be prime candidates for causing eczema, so while you have eczema present on your legs, your best option for clothing is 100% cotton.

Next, moving on to temperature. If you feel sweaty a lot of the time, this could be causing your eczema. Many sufferers of this skin condition can have a bad reaction to sweat due to the high salt content causing irritation. Make sure that your legs are not overheating and stay away from tight trousers, tights or stockings which may be irritating the skin.

If you have to use temperature modifying systems, such as central heating and air conditioning, you may find that they are drying out the skin. In this case, you may wish to make use of a humidifier which are reasonably cheap and keep the air from drying out too much. This should significantly help your skin.

Also, with regards to the skin becoming dry, it is absolutely that you keep your skin moisturized every day. Dry and cracked skin is one of the top causes of eczema and can cause the viscous cycle of itch/scratch, therefore perpetrating the eczema. Also, bear in mind that some moisturizers are better than other for reducing itching. Try to use organic skin creams, or at the very least, hypoallergenic types. The last thing you need is to add a cream that irritates your skin into the mix.
