Adult Acne Treatment – What Causes Adult Acne?

What is acne? The condition is one of the most common facial diseases. It roots from an infection in the skin caused by the sebaceous glands developing or changing. The redness in the spots is caused by inflammation of the skin due in response to the skin infection.

Oils from the body’s glands combine with dead skin cells to block hair follicles. Underneath this blocked pore the oil builds up until a skin bacteria is created, this skin bacteria can grow extremely quickly. The infection caused by this skin bacteria makes the skin swollen and red which are the red spots and bumps we see.

Although the condition is generally more common during puberty due to rapidly changing hormones it still can have an affect on adults.

Common places for it to occur include: the face, chest, back and upper arms.

Some of the effects of the condition:

  • A lot of scaring.
  • Increased skin sensitivity and painfulness to physical contact.
  • Self confidence and self esteem problems, especially for those of younger ages who are more influenced by these things.

Causes of acne:

The exact cause for it not completely known, these things are known to cause or increase cases of acne.

  • Hormonal fluctuation.
  • Hyperactive glands.
  • Increased stress or depression.
  • Many dead skin cells staying on the skin.
  • Bacteria in the pores.
  • Skin irritation or constant scratching.
  • Chlorine, e.g. swimming pools with chlorine used as disinfectant.

Common myths:

  • Diet has an effect on your condition: While it may be possible that eating different foods may be the cure of acne for some, eating foods with high contents of fat being a cause is a complete myth. There is no scientific evidence to show this.
  • Sex has an effect on your condition: It has been said that both celibacy and too much sex can be causes of acne. Again, this is not scientifically proven.

Some techniques to help your condition:

  • Honey Masks: Honey contains natural antibacterial properties which can help you get rid of bacteria that blocks your pores. It is recommended you apply honey masks one or twice a week.
  • Regular Washing: Make sure to wash your face when you wake up and before you go to sleep.
